The compact PLK pistol is the first compact Russian-made sidearm chambered for 9x19 mm cartridges. The pistol allows using the full range of 9x19 mm combat, sporting and other cartridges, including 7N21 high-power armor-piercing cartridges. The compact size of the PLK makes it easy for concealed carry. Ambidextrous controls (safety, slide stop and magazine release button) allow for efficient right- and left-handed operation. An underbarrel Picatinny rail can be used to install a flashlight. The iron sights are equipped with high-visibility inserts. The PLK is distinguished from its counterparts by its ergonomic layout due to the optimum angle of the grip, low-mounted barrel, striker-fire action, and well-thought-out arrangement of the controls.
